Family members believe that Marguerite was adopted by Andrew Milstead following his marriage to Evelyn Tucker in 1941. Never able to find a birth record for her from 1939. She was a 1957 graduate of Valley High School as well as a graduate from Indiana University and Indiana University Southeast where she earned her degrees in Nursing and Education. Peggy had many accomplishments throughout her career which included being a member of the Louisville Visiting Nurse Association, school nurse at Pekin Eastern High School, the Biology teacher and Cheerleading Coach at North Harrison High School, charter member of the First Southern Baptist Church in Floyds Knobs, IN., and Special Education Coordinator at Green Acres Elementary School from where she retired in June of 2000. She was born on July 18, 1939 in Washington D.C. to the late Andrew Jackson and Evelyn A. (Tucker) Milstead. Peggy is survived by her loving husband, Arnold Gahlinger; sons, Alan R. (Sheri) and Doug A. (Terri) Gahlinger; daughter, Melissa Branham; brother Edward Milstead (Sharon); grandchildren, Jeremy (Mackenzie), Jacob, and Jordan Gahlinger, Tara Hnat (Steven), Tana Didelot (John), and Brittany and Braden Branham; and great-granddaughter, Abigail Hnat. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Linda and Danny Clark for their exceptional care for Peggy. Visitation will be from 1 PM to 6 PM on Sunday, June 12, 2016 at Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Lane New Albany, IN 47150. Funeral Services will take place at 11 AM on Monday June 13, 2016 at the funeral home with burial to follow at Louisville Memorial Gardens West (4400 Dixie Hwy, Louisville, KY 40216). Contributions in Peggy’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (6100 Dutchmans Ln # 401, Louisville, KY 40205) or the First Southern Baptist Church of Floyds Knobs (4631 Lakeview Dr, Floyds Knobs, IN 47119).
